What Are ACEs and Where Can I Learn More?
ACEs is the acronym for “Adverse Childhood Experiences.” The phrase was coined due to a study that was conducted in the mid 90’s at Kaiser-Permanente.
In the years since the study, new medical protocols have been established, and the medical research community has been closely following the results of the health outcomes based on the results of those protocols.
Patients are now routinely screened for ACEs, and provided with education and resources to help improve life skills and help people address the root causes of ACEs.
How The Knowledge Of ACEs Can Help With Healing
I felt a great sense of relief and hope when I learned about the ACEs study in 2016. I laughed and cried and danced as I read about the study.
I have a high ACEs score, so it was so encouraging to read about my life experiences from a clinical perspective.
Since I am a visual learner, I used a medical file folder to create what I call my Kataluma Adventure Chart.
The ACEs study gave me the words I needed to create a visual learning tool for the healing journey I had been in for so many years, so as we continue our conversation, I will share a craft tutorial for those who would like to create one of my workbooks for your own learning journey.
